Learn the unusual technique of "Freeze and Fire" cast glass!
Service Description
Have a great time learning the little-known "Freeze and Fire" technique of casting glass. Learn about the glass, how to make casting molds out of objects, and cast several pieces yourself in competed molds provided by us. All glass materials provided. After the molds are full of a glass/water emulsion that you have created, they will be frozen overnight at -10F. You will then return and remove your rock hard glass from the molds and place them in the kiln for firing. This technique is less complicated and easier than "lost wax" casting, and from our point of view, a lot more fun. All students will also be provided a class outline, a firing schedule, along with a list of material supplier's contact info for those of you that can't stop this wonderful glass journey. What You'll Learn - Safety protocols required for glass working - The various tools used in glass working - The basic glass working skills needed to create a beautiful, finished piece of glass art! Who Should Attend - Appropriate for participants with limited or no glass-making experience - Appropriate for all ages. Mature, responsible children are welcome to attend with an accompanying adult and will be allowed to participate to the extent to which they are safely able to Additional Information - All materials included in price - Your finished work will be available for pick-up the following week after firing and annealing (cooling off). If you are from outside the Albuquerque area, we can mail you your finished project(s) - Cotton shirts and closed-toe shoes are REQUIRED - Bring lots of water (it is hot in the shop!) and snacks as desired Scheduling information - Class duration: Approximately 3 hours - This class has a minimum of 2 participants, maximum of 5 - Please note that your class may be rescheduled if fewer than 2 participants are registered for the session - Got a larger group?
