Learn to make beautiful glass beads from a master!
Description
This beginning class will introduce students to the magical world of beadmaking. Students will make several beads of different types, suitable for use in earrings, bracelets, keychains, necklaces, and so much more. You will be amazed at the beautiful things you will make in your first class! Note: beads do not have to be perfect to be beautiful! What You'll Learn - SAFETY at the torch, different types of glass, their properties and non-compatibility, and annealing requirements for soft glass - How to light and turn off an oxygen-propane torch correctly - Pulling stringers (thin glass rods that will be used later to make dots) - Making round, balanced beads using heat and gravity - Applying dots using the pre-made stringers, melting flat and leaving them raised - How to rake dots - How to make stacked dots - How to poke dots and cover with clear to capture an air bubble - How to encase dots to make stripes Who Should Attend - Appropriate for participants with limited or no glass-making experience - Appropriate for all ages. Mature, responsible children are welcome to attend with an accompanying adult and will be allowed to participate to the extent to which they are safely able to Additional Information - Didymium glasses will be provided - Safety will be emphasized - All materials included in price - Your finished work will be available for pick-up the next day after annealing (cooling off). If you are from outside the Albuquerque area, we can mail you your finished project(s) - Students must wear cotton clothing (polyester melts and sticks to the skin!!!), closed toed shoes, and tie back long hair. - Bring water and snacks as desired Scheduling information - Class duration: Approximately 4 hours - Can accommodate 1 or 2 participants, so bring a friend! - Got a larger group?
